The flu clinics start the beginning of October to make an appointment for the clinics please phone reception on  0131 442 8700 and ask for a flu injection appointment.

Flu is a viral illness that is spread by the coughs and sneezes of people who are already infected. The symptoms of flu include:

  • high fever
  • shivers
  • headache
  • aching limbs
  • cough and running nose
  • no energy

Flu often lasts for a week or more and can make you feel weak for several weeks longer.

For most people flu is just a nasty experience, but for some it can lead to more serious illnesses such as bronchitis and pneumonia that may need hospital treatment.

The flu vaccine is recommended if you are:

  • 65 years or over

OR you have

  • a chronic heart or chest complaint such as angina, asthma or bronchitis
  • chronic kidney disease
  • diabetes
  • lowered immunity due to serious disease or treatment such as steroid medication or cancer treatment

Healthy people under 65 years do not need to be vaccinated as flu is not a serious risk for them.

Carers are eligible for a Free Flu Vac
